If it's not something you need this instant, it might be worth holding off on as the High Sierra update will be available in the fall sometime.

Re: Optical Drives
Add me to the list of people who hardly ever uses their optical drive. I haven't purchase software on disc in ages, and while it's nice to have an optical drive in my 2007-vintage MacBook Pro, if I didn't have it I wouldn't be lost without it.

Re: Macbook Pro keeps restarting and QuickTime Player opening
The OP said he's running a MacBook Pro. Therefore, he is neither running Classic nor Puma. Why are you posting so many long irrelevant rants all over the place? Mac OS 9 has literally nothing whatsoever to do with this topic. See Urban Dictionary: Thread Hijacking.

Re: Thoughts on Steve's passing
Have been reading the news stories all day and last night as well. Started first as breaking news of his death, then the tributes and memorials and look-backs at his insanely great career. So many memories, so many emotions. I'm left with very few words. We owe so much to Steve.

Re: iMac mouse cursor moves by itself
Are you by any chance using your iMac's mouse over a glossy varnish or glass surface? If so that may aversely affect optical mouse behavior.
If you're using a Magic Trackpad, then make sure its surface is clean of any residue or moisture.

Re: No service all time
If you live in a poor coverage area, then losing service shouldn't be unexpected. But it shouldn't be lost and then never come back . I have noticed sometimes if my iPhone is struggling with service, like has one bar or no bars or jumps between them, it seems to *give up* after awhile and all ...

I'll second the recommendation for VirtualBox. I am using it right now to write this post on Windows XP, in fact.
It's simple, fast, efficient and convenient.

Re: app for monitor invalid logins.
Go to Applications -> Utilities -> Console. In the logs list on the left hand side of the window, go to FILES -> /private/var/log -> secure.log. In the secure.log file search for anything that says "Failed to determine Kerberos principal name." That's what's written to the log when an invalid login ...

I have a 3G and it works. When you're in the Camera app, tap once on the image and a slider will appear. Drag the slider up and down to zoom in and out.

Re: Using iMac discs to upgrade
If Apple had seen this as any sort of problem, they would have recalled unsold stock and re-pressed the DVD to make it impossible at any point after the "flaw" was discovered, some seven months ago. They didn't.

I'm pretty sure, in most cases, the restore DVDs are tied to the specific hardware they shipped with. If you had the same exact model of computer you could use them, but not in the situation you described above.

Re: Forwarding email photos
Does this happen with all attempts to forward emails with attachments, or only this one? There is a possibility the image file has some kind of corruption that causes iPhone to "forget" that it's supposed to be attached. I've had such things happen in other programs before, where a file that seems ...

Re: Forwarding email photos
Hmm, might be some kind of bug. If that's the case, try copying the image first, create the new forward message, and paste it in. See if that works.
