Re: iWork vs. Microsoft office
Office 2011 seems to be considerably better than previous versions, after a couple of months' use. I just use it for simplicity when dealing with Windoze-using clients. But 'Adamcnm'? Why not just get a Mac?

Much better to buy a Mac. But you could use an emulator like VMWare to install Snow Leopard 'inside' Windoze. I have Windoze 7 installed via VMWare on my Mac, for website testing purposes. But as stated above, OSX is intended for Mac hardware, and won't run as well on a PC as it does natively.

Re: Safari Crashing
Coincidentally I too have a summer 2009-bought iMac and a G4 iBook for 'emergencies' - I had a few problems on the iBook at first with the Safari 5.0 release, but as Wove says, I found these to be solved by updating things like Flash Player.

Re: New to Mac Pro
Welcome to Mac! You'll soon get the hang of it, basically it's much more intuitive than Windoze. Once you get it in your head that the OS isn't to be wrestled with like Windoze, and rather that it helps you along, you will have made the leap!
